Insightful if not a bit scathing, though I understand why he's upset. I actually did have a Geology professor tell me something similar to this once, though on somewhat simpler terms. I think what it is, is that people like to be in control of everything. If anything's wrong, it must be our fault, which means we must be able to fix it. I'm not a scientist myself, so I can't give authority to either side. I just settle with being generally for not dumping gasoline in the ocean or stepping on small endangered animals, but against believing that we can prevent all bad things from coming to pass.
